The other day I was asked why I have taken such a strong Pro-Palestinian stance in regard to the conflict in Northeast Africa (the so-called Middle East). I replied because I am a conscious African who believes that Israel is engaged in apartheid against the Palestinian people. And they need to be stopped just as permanently over there as the White Supremacists in the racist country of AmeriKKKa need to be stopped over here.
As a result of taking this position, some may label me an anti-Semite. However, because I have studied World Religions, I cannot be put in that box because I am not against any religion.
Let us be clear that Judaism and Zionism are two completely different existential realities.
Judaism is the monotheistic religion tracing its roots back nearly 4,000 years to the Abrahamic faith tradition. Followers, known as Jews, believe in one God and observe spiritual, cultural, and legal traditions centered on the Torah, a sacred text containing God's laws revealed to Moses.
Zionism is a secular movement developed during the 19th century by Theodor Herzl, an avowed atheist, with the political goal of colonization of land outside of Europe for the benefit of a small elitist section of the Jewish global population using the cover of Judaism as its justification to the land already occupied by the Palestinian people. The Palestinians have been subjected to the theft and foreign colonization of their land. In the 19th century, forces in Europe and America moved to begin to move on the formulation of a movement known as Zionism. The Balfour Declaration issued by Britain in 1917 put forth support for the establishment of a Zionist state in Palestine.
The state of Israel was created in 1948 and Jews worldwide relocated to a part of Palestine that was designated for them by the United Nations (UN). The original inhabitants (Palestinians) of the land were forced into exile up till today.
Israel has been given military support by the U.S. and Europe to subjugate all the Arab neighbors around them. The U.S. armed them with nuclear capabilities and ensured that all efforts by the UN to recognize Palestine, as a nation, were blocked. All UN condemnation of attacks and killings of Palestinians are usually vetoed by the U.S. These can be confirmed historically. Many Palestinians who were the original inhabitants of the land where Israel now occupies are currently living in exile.
Land represents the primary means of producing products required to satisfy the material needs of human beings.
The way that land is allocated and utilized within a society is a cultural, ideological and political question even though the function of land is primarily to deal with the material and economic needs of those who are in possession of it.
As a result of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the colonization of Africa by Europeans, and American imperialism in Africa, the African continent was permanently, negatively impacted by the theft of Africans and their land to enrich greedy White capitalists.
The Highly civilized states of the Mayans, Incas, and Aztecs populated North America. They were the indigenous people of the land who had inhabited the land since man’s earliest times. The indigenous people of North America were the victims of large scale extermination by the Europeans and their land was stolen from them.
These land grabs by imperialists are geared towards taking over wealthy pieces of land from weaker nations. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the UN are mechanisms that have allowed the greedy capitalist countries of the West to accomplish their land grabs.
As a Revolutionary Black Nationalist and Pan-Africanist, I am not anti-Judaism. I am anti-Zionist. At the same time, I am pro-Palestinian. Palestinians are a Semitic people along with many other Afro-Asiatic people who I also support. Therefore, I am definitely not anti-Semitic.
Malcom X was courageously correct when he articulated the argument that “the number one weapon of 20th century imperialism is Zionist dollarism, and one of the main bases for this weapon is Zionist Israel. The ever-scheming European imperialists wisely placed Israel where she could geographically divide the Arab world, infiltrate and sow the seed of dissension among African leaders and also divide the Africans against the Asians.”
I stand in the long tradition of Africans in America such as Malcom X, Kwame Ture, Huey Newton, Assata Shakur and others who adopted the same position in regards to the Palestinian struggle for liberation.
This position is grounded in the interconnectivity of the struggle for liberation of oppressed people around the globe. This is why Kwame Ture (aka Stokely Carmichael) illustrated an irrefutable idea when he sagaciously suggested that “Israel is an illegal, immoral, and unjust state.”
Africans are also an oppressed people who are struggling for our liberation. The focal point, in all genuine liberation struggles, is centered on JUSTICE. And as Dr. King stated, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
